To the 6-week training campers,
You are about to embark upon a 6-week journey for your body, mind and soul. As part of the ‘camp’ you will have received a nutrition plan to ensure you are fuelling your body and achieving your goals. The first week is focussed on rebooting your body. Its all about taking the load off your system and allowing your body to naturally detoxify in preparation for the weeks ahead. If you’d like to read more about detoxification check this out https://www.mindbodygreen.com/0-23490/what-you-can-expect-from-a-detox-a-functional-medicine-doctor-explains.html
A couple of tips as you prepare for Week 1:
- Plan plan and plan again! The key is in the prep. Look at the weekly meal plan, shop, chop and then you can stop and enjoy the food. By doing this you shouldn’t feel hungry. Hunger is what is going to have you slipping off the wagon so be prepared.
- What do you mean ‘no alcohol’? For some, a refreshing beverage at the end of a tough day can be a real deal breaker. If water just isn’t going to cut it for you try a kombucha over ice. There are plenty of refreshing flavours out there (ginger and lemon is my favourite). You’ll be surprised how it can satisfy your cravings and at the same time improve your gut health – win, win. If buying commercial brands check out the nutrition panel and make sure there is no added sugar hiding in there. Remedy is a good supermarket brand. Going alcohol-free is not only going to reduce your intake of empty calories but also supports your liver.
- Caffeine fiend? The reality is you should be prepared to experience some headaches. Ensure you are drinking plenty of water and if you are struggling try decaf as an option. There is a huge range of herbal teas out there so go and explore what excites your taste buds. Herbal teas are great cool over ice as well. Try starting your day with lemon and hot water. Its a good alternative to coffee and will also work to improve your digestion and support your liver which is your prime detoxification organ.
- On that note – hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. This will help your body flush out the toxins. Herbal teas count towards your hydration.
- For those who want to take the detox to the next level consider opting for gluten-free bread options and replacing any dairy with almond/soy/coconut milk.
